A Letter to My Children
There will come a day when you will ask what everyone did when everything fell apart. This letter is my answer.
How we track and verify responses
- Contacted means our records show the message was actually delivered to the office: Zoho’s sent records for email, the submission result for web forms. Staff messages count for their member’s office.
- Every office gets the same question. Party is shown only as a label. 2B.org does not endorse or oppose candidates.
- Verified office means the response was confirmed through a one-time link sent to an address on file for that office, or checked by an editor.
- Statements are published word for word. We remove one only for legal reasons, and we record why.
- Took a position = supports, supports with conditions, or opposes. Acknowledged = undecided or declined to comment. Offices can update their response at any time.
- We do not publish email open or click data. Government mail filters open messages automatically, so those numbers say nothing about whether a person read them.
